IMR's Studio Construction Shots
Control Rm Here's a projected view of how the control room will look. Aside from the cheesy desk that will be replaced with a mixing console and stand, it's a fairly close look that's in my vision.
Full View Here is an overhead view, but the design to the left has changed drastically. All of the changes are interior changes, but the structure is basically the same.

Brief background on this project!

My story isn't uncommon, but I hope it will inspire anyone who is thinking along the same lines. My point here is.... if I can do it... ANYONE can! In short, I had a silent partner who was going to match $50K with me to build the studio. When the wheels started turning he backed out...saying he had been advised that the music and studio biz was too risky.....WTF!

So being that I had shut down and sold my other spot that was a studio...I was stuck out there and all my gear packed up! I could have borrowed the missing funds and got everything financed, but didn't want to over-extend all of my resources! Long story shorter...I decided I was going to build the studio my DAMN self! Keep in mind that I've never done any major construction work! I did my homework, bought tools and believed I would pull it off!

It's taken way longer than expected, but I've saved an estimated $36,000! I don't have all of my studio toys to show off just yet, but it won't be long! Y'all may not appreciate the sweat and hard work.....but I'm damn proud of myself! So here's the first dose....more to come!

Enjoy,
~14K~

When my father told me that he would give me 12 acres of land in a relaxed The Vision and laid-back neighborhood, I was sold! With no houses within 500 feet, I can make all the noise I want... day or night! The best thing that sealed the deal was the word "free!". What a great place for a Studio! Like the old sitcom "Green Acres," I packed up and left the wild and crazy city-living behind to relax and chill!

Izmi-Mikon Records is pronounced: Is My Mike On?

Nick & 14Kizzle As you can see around me in the background...it's soo peaceful. When I want to get wild, I'll visit the city, but when it's time for peace....I'll be at home in the "Lab!"
Door Header Frame Checking the door header before nailing the sheathing to the 2x6 studs. This little dude beside me was interested in construction, so I always try to be a good role model and mentor along the way! I explained to him the reason for setting the studs at 16" o.c.

In this shot you see me close to the edge in a red shirt. I'm about 26 feet off the ground with no harness...just a rope! I know better because I have been trained for high angle rescue and still active in that field for Walls going up almost 8 years now, yet look at me!
Fact is, my friend beside of me has my harness on and I was so happy to see the walls going up that I didn't feel like going down to the 1st floor to get a spare harness...that was STUPID, but I'm still here!

What's ironic is the fact that the "ERT" on my back means Emergency Response Team! I do have some protection though. I know how to tie about 15 fancy rigging knots like "retracing figure of 8's" and "bowland" knots....I'm cool!!!

Long Day

14K is blocking this door! It's a 26 foot drop below! This door will eventually become the entrance for a deck that will be built later! The deck will be poured concrete, I'm not dealing with PT lumber. I've heard too many horror stories about maintenance. They have some man-made stuff, but I'm doing concrete so it will out last me!
Look up to the 2nd floor

Here you see the second floor deck entrance doorway! From left to right is Derrick (fellow musician), Regina (secret weapon), and Elijah my 2nd oldest son.

Here is a real trooper! Not only has she been the one I depend on for bookkeeping, scheduling clients, artist development, A Real Trooper fashion design, and basically keeping me organized....she has been right there with us guys doing the heavy-duty work! She is multi-talented and I'd pick her for my team over most guys I know!

Shouts go to Ms. Regina Williams!

The second story level is now finished, well except the stairs to the attic. My roof trusses have a 10 ft pitch, so there's much space in the attic for something! I decided mid-stream to build a staircase rather than having a hinged ladder/ door kit in the ceiling! The light is coming from several skylights I had put in the roof...another last minute decision!
Another view of where the stairs will go to the attic!
14 weather sealing studs A dude that does construction tipped me off that if I applied a weather-proof seal to my studs even though they will be covered with housewrap and exterior walls....it will help with any moisture issues or black mold in the future. Just a $56 dollar investment.....why not?

So now we are at the end of the day. I can't make it rain like "Fat Joe" but I'm going to make the Summer Hot this year!A good day for 14K!

14K is one happy dude in this shot....Everything is about done on the outside, the inside will be fast and easy! The highest hurdle has now been jumped!

All of this work....just to give my toys a good home!Home for my toys Thank God I already have all the studio gear and only need minor gadgets to get started. I like to give a shout-out to MV Nation for putting up with my cranky attitude at times during this slow process!

When I have the GRAND OPENING, I'll invite around 20 members to come.....Travel and hotel accommodations will be taken care of! I'm a man of my word! Quote Me!
